Covid-19 Update from Upward Transitions’ CEO

All,

With COVID-19 precautions being taken in our community, we are very aware of the vulnerabilities to the homeless community during this time. Upward Transitions is open and continuing to serve our neighbors experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness.

Our clients struggle with access to health care and stable housing on a normal day, and we are alert to the increased importance of access to the ability to simply wash their hands and sustain a healthy, safe place to live during a health event such as this. We are striving to ensure a safe and healthy environment for our clients and staff during this ongoing health event.

The following measures have already been taken at the Upward Transitions offices:

  • The lobby seating has been changed to allow for more spacing between clients waiting.\
  • Clients have been asked not to congregate in the lobby.
  • Staff has increased the frequency of sanitation of common items such as phones, doorknobs, etc.
  • Hand sanitizers have been made available throughout the office.
  • Outside office meetings have been eliminated.
  • Measures have been taken to move to phone-based case management, when possible.

We are doing our best to put health practices in place for the safety of our clients and staff, as the important services we provide such as rent and utility support, access to identification, resources for transportation, and referrals to other social services are necessary for the stability and safety of those on the margins.

In addition to these sanitation practices we have implemented around our office, we ask that you please consider giving an additional gift at this time. Many of our grants are very specific to how they can and cannot be utilized, so during a unique time like this, it is YOUR gift that allows us the flexibility to respond and support our clients more dynamically.

In addition to a donation, you can support our community by practicing the recommended guidelines:

If you are sick, especially if you have a fever of 100.4, please stay home, except to get medical care.

The CDC also recommends social distancing, which means remaining out of congregate settings, gatherings of ten (10) or more, and maintaining distance (approximately 6 feet or 2 meters) from others when possible.

We know this situation is an ever-changing one, and we will keep you up to date as things change and if our hours or services are modified.

Thank you for your support of our mission and our clients,

Periann Pulliam
