Thank goodness for Upward Transitions – I don’t know what I would have done without their help!

The cost of helping someone off the streets is so much more than money — it is rebuilding an emotional and fiscal foundation. Just imagine what a difference it would have made if they were given the tools to change their lives before they hit rock bottom.

Her life turned upside down last fall, when her husband of 30 years died suddenly. In the painful weeks that followed Dixie was headed for rock bottom.  With no income and no advocate, she was lost in a paper shuffle that included denying income she was entitled to receive.  The process was set in motion for her to lose her home and her utilities were shut off.

Dixie contacted a local news station, which in turn, got her in touch with Upward Transitions.

Upward Transitions was able to step in as Dixie’s advocate, paying to get her utilities turned back on and her housing and income stabilized.  Upward Transitions reached out to a local community organization to have an outdoor ramp built for this otherwise homebound widow. In addition, Upward Transitions arranged for an assessment of her son, who has a learning disability, so that he may obtain training and job skills.

Dixie said it best, “Thank goodness for Upward Transitions – I don’t know what I would have done without their help!”

This is one of hundreds of lives Upward Transitions is able to make a difference in, because of generous supporters like you!
