Temple B’nai Israel Volunteers Make Christmas Travel Smooth

Temple B’nai Israel Volunteers Make Christmas Travel Smooth

For over 30 years, Temple Volunteers have staffed information booths at the airport.

Since 1973, the two information booths at Will Rogers World Airport have been staffed by volunteers with the Upward Transitions’ Travelers Aid Program.  Every day these dedicated volunteers answer questions, help stranded travelers and serve as ambassadors to those visiting Oklahoma City. Beginning in 1985, Temple B’nai Israel volunteers have volunteered on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day allowing the regularly scheduled Travelers Aid volunteers to spend the holiday with their family and friends.

Temple B’nai Israel’s Volunteer Coordinator, Brad Marion, said he “doesn’t have any trouble filling the spots.” Many of the Temple volunteers joyfully come back year after year to help travelers during two of the busiest travel days of the years.

“This is a valued partnership. I am thankful for their dedicated service to us, Will Rogers World Airport, and Oklahoma City”, shared Crystal Levine, Upward Transitions’ Travelers Aid Volunteer Coordinator.

During the Winter Storm of 2009, it was volunteers from Temple B’nai Israel who were forced to spend the night at the airport, all while answering the phones and helping others who were stranded as well. Through the years and any kind of weather, they continue to be an amazing gift of cheer to holiday travelers!

Upward Transitions’ is grateful to Temple B’nai Israel for this partnership.
