Event Description:
American Tourist Takes A Trip On Route 66 is a destination themed event that attracts over 400 people to a new "destination" each year. The evening includes silent and live auctions, a wine pull, raffle, live music, food from a variety of area restaurants and a selection of beverages. The dress is casual. The tickets are affordable at $65 per person and $75 at the door. Past destinations include the Derby, Wine Country, the Wild, Wild, West and Hollywood. Sponsorship opportunities are available.

Organizational Mission:
Elevating those in need, stranded or homeless to a position of self-sufficiency.

Organizational Description:
Travelers Aid & Homeless Assistance Center under the umbrella of Upward Transitions has been serving the metropolitan area for 86 years, making the organization one of the oldest social services non-profit in the area. We operate the three diverse programs listed below.

Community Outreach Program:
Offers a wide variety of programs to help needy and homeless clients. Our biggest request for assistance is for utilities. In FY 2009-10, we received over 17,000 calls for financial assistance to help with utilities and/or rent. Other services include the emergency relocation of domestic violence victims, assisting stranded travelers to reach their destination safely, as well as numerous programs for homeless clients with the goal of assisting them to become self-sufficient.

Family Outreach Program:
Operates seven transitional houses where we place homeless families with minor children for up to two years. The families meet once a week with their case manager. The families work on life skills, clearing their credit, furthering their education, improving employment potential, etc. The families pay rent on a sliding scale and receive 1/2 the rent when they exit the Transitional Housing Program. The Family Outreach Program administers an Emergency Shelter Grant to prevent homelessness by assisting with rent and utility payments. We are the recipient of federal stimulus funding to prevent homelessness through the payment of utilities and rent as well as funds to rapidly house clients who have recently become homeless.

Travelers Aid:
Operates the two information booths at Will Rogers World Airport 365 days a year by an all volunteer staff.
