American Tourist: “Medieval Knights” Set for June 13th

Planning has begun for our annual fundraiser, American Tourist, and this year’s event is shaping up to be a royal affair!  The theme for this year’s American Tourist is “Medieval Knights,” and some big changes are in store.

First of all, we’re moving.  This year’s event will be held at the newly remodeled Chevy Bricktown Events Center.  The $2 million remodel includes a new balcony and the addition of three new bars along with new lighting and video monitors.

“The staff at the Chevy Bricktown Events Center have invited us to tour and see the progress of the upgrades throughout the remodel process,” said Dana Hope Chism, executive director, Upward Transitions.  “The place is absolutely beautiful and we’re so excited to be moving to a new location.”

Another change, this year’s event will have an official honoree in Oklahoma City Ward Six Councilwoman Meg Salyer.

“Councilwoman Salyer has not only been a supporter of Upward Transitions, but of those working on behalf of the city’s homeless community,” said Chism.  “Because of her leadership and support, we couldn’t think of a better person to honor during this event.”

And because you shouldn’t mess with perfection, some things won’t change this year, for example, the band Banana Seat will take the stage and rock the house again this year.  And, we’ll again feature some amazing auction items.  Some of the items already submitted include passes to great local museums; a hat signed by former OU quarterback and current NFL star Sam Bradford; and a trip to the Big Apple, New York City!  There will also be a wine pull and, of course, period dress is always encouraged.

Added Chism, “I don’t know if we’ll see any suits of armor, but everyone always has a lot of fun dressing up for each year’s theme.”

Mark your calendars, 6:30 to 11 p.m., June 13th at the Bricktown Chevy Events Center.  Lance and shield are optional.

Help end generational poverty.
