Upward Transitions 2019 United Way “Day of Caring” Cookout Set for Oct. 4: BKD CPAs & Advisors Inc. to Sponsor Event

OKLAHOMA CITY — On Friday, October 4th, Upward Transitions will host a cookout for persons experiencing homelessness as a part of the United Way’s 2019 “Day of Caring”.  With the support of BKD CPAs & Advisors, Upward Transitions will be cooking hot dogs and hamburgers from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on the organization’s site at 1134 West Main Street in Oklahoma City. The invitations are extended to clients and homeless neighbors to join the festivities.

On BKD’s support of this project, Oklahoma Managing Partner, Carley Williams says, “Community engagement is extremely important to BKD.  Our local BKD family feels very blessed to be part of such a great city, and we strongly believe it is our responsibility to positively impact the lives of our fellow Oklahoma City residents.  Upward Transitions provides a platform for us to help serve the essential needs of those most vulnerable on our streets, and we’ve been grateful for this meaningful opportunity the last several years as part of the United Way of Central Oklahoma ‘Day of Caring’.”

“Day of Caring” is the United Way of Central Oklahoma’s annual corporate volunteer event to benefit its Partner Agencies. Volunteer teams from corporate and government agencies will complete projects ranging from landscaping and painting gymnasiums, to reading to children and playing bingo with seniors. United Way “Day of Caring” is the nation’s largest corporate volunteer event. United Way of Central Oklahoma invites corporate partner volunteers to participate in projects at partner agencies throughout October.

Since 1925, Upward Transitions, a United Way partner agency, has served thousands of individuals, families, and seniors who are or who have experienced poverty and/or homelessness. With the help of the Upward Transitions’ programs and services, many families and individuals have experienced personal and economic success.  During 2018-2019, Upward Transitions assisted more than 3,300 people with direct services which include transportation, housing support, and accessing legal documents. Each year, Upward Transitions invests real dollars into families in the Oklahoma County community to end generational poverty and prevent homelessness.
